”We don’t lack in anything, there is quality in the team”, feels Rohit

India captain Rohit Sharma stuck by his team after the side’s consecutive losses at the Asia Cup 2022, stating there is immense quality within the team and they aren’t lacking anything heading into the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. For the skipper, his team may have underperformed over the last two games versus Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but they aren’t short of skill and resolve in either department.

“Kami kahi nahi hai (We don’t lack in anything), there is quality in the team,”

Rohit told the press after India’s defeat to Sri Lanka on September 6.

The opener batter was facing queries from the media on his team’s pressure-handling abilities as India failed to live up to their potential at another multi-team tournament after a Super 12 exit at the T20 World Cup in UAE last year.

Rohit said playing different oppositions in different games each time pose a unique challenge of its own, something that India need to get better at without overplaying the defeats at the Asia Cup 2022 in their heads.

“We have won so many games but yes somewhere in tournaments like this this when you have different is oppositions and you play different oppositions the pressure is different,”

    Sharma said.

“In bilateral series, you are playing the same side again and in tournaments like this, teams comes with different plans, and we have to be ahead of them.”

While coming out in defence of his troops, Rohit would have been deeply disappointed by the losses at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the latest one putting his team on the verge of Super 4 stage elimination from the Asia Cup 2022.

After topping their group with successive victories, India have played largely unconvincing cricket in either department and now require a set of results, including an Afghanistan win over Pakistan on September 7, to go their way to have any chance of securing a place in the final.

Two ways to look at it:

A: No need to panic. We were missing 3 key players + toss is a big factor in Dubai.

B: We often win bilaterals despite key players resting, so why not multi-team events?

Apart from the Afghan victory, India will need the Sri Lankans to continue their winning run over Pakistan and do that with a significant margin while securing a heavy triumph over the Afghans themselves in their next match on September 8.
