West Indies allrounder Fabian Allen opened up about his time off from international cricket, revealing that he lost his father earlier this year and had a tough time dealing with it.
The 27-year-old has made himself available for international selection after being away from international cricket for six months. The decision comes just in time for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in October.
The left-arm spin all-rounder had declined a retainer contract from Cricket West Indies earlier this year and had been unavailable for personal reasons.
Allen opened up about his time away from cricket, revealing in a statement that he had lost his father to cancer earlier this year. He thanked the board for their support and confirmed his availability for international cricket.
“As some of you may know, I recently lost my father to cancer this year and it has been a very difficult time for me and my family. He was my biggest fan and I’m happy he got [to] see me live my dream as a professional cricketer. I will continue to make him proud,”

He topped the run-scoring chart in the inaugural edition of the 6ixty last week, hammering 138 runs in four games at a strike rate of 226. The player is set to represent Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. Allen will be hoping to push for a spot in the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup.
“I’ve been getting myself physically and mentally ready for the CPL and hopefully the T20 World Cup (if selected) later this year. The best of Fabian Allen is yet to come. I know I have the ability to be one of the best batting all rounders in the world and I look forward to showcasing it for all to see,”
