NorthEast United FC announced the signing of centre-back Gaurav Bora ahead of the 2022-23 season in the Indian Super League on August 25. In June, the 24-year-old has become a free agent after parting ways with Odisha FC.
“It was a really good experience for me with everyone here, it was amazing to be a part of this team, to win together and to lose together. I’ve grown a lot in these last three years and thanks to everyone who has been supporting me throughout this,”
expressed Bora after having spent three years with the Bhubaneswar-based club.
Bora moved to Delhi as a child and was chosen to train at the Bhaichung Bhutia Football School. His performances earned him a spot on Delhi’s U-16 team. In 2016, he joined Pune City FC academy after impressive performances during his spell with the Maharashtra-based club.
In November 2017, he was loaned to Chennai City FC of the Indian Super League. He made his debut against the Indian Arrows, whom his team defeated 3-0. With his performances in the 2017-18 I-League season, he impressed everyone and was then loaned back to the Chennai-based club the following season.
He scored a brace against Minerva Punjab in March 2019, to help Chennai City win their maiden I-League title.
Bora joined Odisha FC ahead of the 2019-20 season and made his debut against FC Goa. He has been with the Juggernauts for three seasons and has made 41 appearances for the ISL club, managing one goal and three assists in the process.
NorthEast United have been relatively quiet for the majority of the current transfer season. However, since appointing Marco Barbul as a new head coach earlier in August, the club have appeared ambitious in the market, revamping their squad for the 2022-23 season. The Highlanders have signed goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya, midfielders Emil Benny and Jithin MS earlier this summer, .
