The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage is set. The highlight of the round involves Barcelona’s fixtures against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, the trio drawn together in Group C.
Losing finalists in the 2021/22 edition of the UEFA Champions League, Liverpool will be hoping to go one better this time around. However, to get to the knockout stages, the Reds will have to navigate a tricky group stage draw that has pitted them against AFC Ajax, SSC Napoli, and Rangers.
The four teams have been pulled into Group A of the 2022/23 draw, with two going through to the next round, one dropping to the UEFA Europa League, and one out of European competitions entirely.
Group B will see Atletico Madrid take on FC Porto in the big clash; the pair also faced each other in last year’s group stage, with Atletico winning one and drawing the other against their Portuguese opponents. Bayer Leverkusen and Club Brugge are the other two sides in this group.
Earmarked as the “Group of Death”, Group C will see highlight clashes between three of Europe’s biggest teams and three previous winners of the competition: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan. Viktoria Plzen complete the draw. 2021 UEFA Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt will play Tottenham in Group D, as well as Sporting Club and Olympique Marseille.
Winners of the 2020/21 edition of the Champions League, Chelsea, will face AC Milan in Group E; RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb will complete the quartet.
Champions again in 2021/22, and on the hunt for a record 15th title, Real Madrid will face Germany’s RB Leipzig, Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk, and Scotland’s Celtic in Group F.
Erling Haaland will return to Westfalenstadion to take on former club Borussia Dortmund with new employers Manchester City in the highlight clash of Group G. The pair will also face Sevilla in the group stage and Danish giants FC Kobenhavn. Finally, PSG will be up against Juventus in Group H, with Benfica and Maccabi Haifa completing the draw.
