Manchester United have agreed to loan defender Eric Bailly to Olympique Marseille for the season – reports Fabrizio Romano.
The Ivorian will join the Ligue 1 side on a temporary deal, which will turn permanent should Marseille qualify for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League. He will undergo his medical shortly and sign for Igor Tudor’s side, joining former Red Devils star Alexis Sanchez at the Orange Velodrome.
In terms of incomings, United are continuing to work on deals to sign Ajax and PSV Eindhoven wingers, Antony and Cody Gakpo.
Regarding the future of the latter, PSV boss and former Manchester United player, Ruud van Nistelrooy, confirmed the club’s desire to hold onto their star asset for the 2022/23 season, complimenting him on his professional behaviour amid reports that his Ajax counterpart had missed training to force a move through to England.
“There have been a lot of rumours for a long time, it’s clear we’d love to keep Gakpo here at PSV. I have been working with him for eight weeks now and have not seen a single moment that he shows different behaviour. That is very nice for someone his age,”
he said, per 90min.
Manchester United are also working on signing a new goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window following the departure of David de Gea’s understudy Dean Henderson.
Among those linked are Yann Sommer, Asmir Begovic, Illan Meslier, and Kevin Trapp. While the futures of some of those players remain uncertain, Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that he and the club would like Trapp to stay for the season, given his importance to the team.
“From a sporting point of view, I would of course like to keep such a great goalkeeper and person. He is a great role model and always one of the first to arrive at training. But I’m not the final decision-maker,”
Glasner said, per Manchester Evening News.
