The Blues are preparing to splurge an absurd amount of cash in the final weeks of the window to strengthen their failing attack. Among those linked with the club are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (FC Barcelona), Rafael Leao (AC Milan), and Anthony Gordon (Everton).
Chelsea are prepared to take their summer spending over the 200 million pound mark by the end of the window, with the Blues after multiple targets to strengthen their stuttering attack. Thomas Tuchel’s side has scored thrice in three games so far this season, with none of the preferred attackers – Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling, and Mason Mount – on the scoresheet yet.
Aubameyang is Chelsea’s number one target in attack. The Gabon international has a rapport with the Blues’ head coach Thomas Tuchel, having worked under him at Borussia Dortmund. To that end, Sky Italia reports that an agreement between Chelsea and Barcelona for the transfer is imminent, with the former agreeing to pay 20 million euros plus bonuses to fix their attack in the short term.
As per 90min, Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the 2021/22 Serie A MVP of the Season, Leao. The Premier League giants were among the many European elites maintaining a close watch on the Portugal international following a remarkable season, during which he led AC Milan to their first league title in over a decade, and have been in touch with his representatives since.
The Rossoneri, however, do not want to part ways with the forward – as confirmed by director Paolo Maldini earlier in the summer – and would only sell him in case his 150 million euro release clause is triggered.
Moreover, Chelsea are also seriously interested in Everton academy graduate Gordon, despite the Toffees’ reservations against selling the 21-year-old winger.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the striker has announced to Everton his intention to leave the club and sign for the Blues, who, per the report, would be paying a 50 million pound fee upfront to complete the deal, with an additional 10 million wrapped in bonuses.
