FIFA has decided to ban All India Football Federation until further notice, citing undue influence from third parties that violates the statutes of football’s governing body. Fans took to Twitter to voice their displeasure at the same.
On August 16, FIFA decided to ban the All Indian Football Federation from all football-related activities with immediate effect. Citing the undue influence of third parties, a “serious violation” of the football governing body’s statutes, FIFA suspended AIFF until further notice.
“The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes,”
a FIFA statement read.
The governing body also provided clarification as to what it would take to get the ban removed: per their words, the suspension will last until the AIFF administration regains complete control of its daily affairs and a mandate to set up a committee of temporary administrators to take over the responsibilities of the organization’s Executive Committee has been repealed.
“The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs,”
it continued.
The list of implications FIFA’s order would have on Indian football is long, but among other things, the organizing body will not recognize any league held in India officially until it is in place. Furthermore, India, until further notice, will lose the right to host the U17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be held from mid-to-late October.
Taking their grievances online, multiple fans and famous personalities lamented the FIFA ban and AIFF’s role in it.
Another hearing has been penned in relation to this matter in the near future.
