In the match against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 21, SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar went off the field after bowling just 3 overs due to a thigh strain. The swing bowler has recently missed a lot of cricketing action due to several injuries.
Indian ace pacer has been a go-to bowler for the ‘Men in Blue’ as well as for his IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, continuous injury scare have often prevented the man from showing his actual potential. In the match against Punjab Kings, Kumar bowled a brilliant spell and played a pivotal role in guiding his side to their maiden win in the season.
He conceded only six runs in his first over. In the second over, he took the wicket of Punjab captain KL Rahul. He bowled another superb over in the powerplay to finish the spell with figures of 1 for 16 from three overs.
After having a disastrous outing against the Mumbai Indians where he finished with the figures of 0/45 in four overs, this spell was a real confidence booster for Bhuvi. However, he left the field on Wednesday after his third over and didn’t return to bowl his fourth over.
Commentator Lisa Sthalekar informed on the air that Bhuvneshwar has actually suffered a thigh strain. If Bhuvi is ruled out even for a few games, Sunrisers will find themselves in a heap of trouble as their left arm pacer T. Natarajan is also suffering from a niggle.
The David Warner-led side has had a terrible start to the tournament. They lost the first three matches of the season and finally registered their first win on Tuesday. Jonny Bairstow scored an unbeaten 63 to guide his team to victory with nine wickets in hand.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has encountered a number of injuries in the recent past. He underwent sports hernia surgery early last year, which kept him out of the game for a while. The pacer made a comeback in the last season of the IPL but was once again injured. This time it was a hamstring injury which kept him out of the entire season. After a long time, Bhuvi returned to international cricket last month and delivered impressive performances against England.
