Manchester United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer informed the press that both David de Gea and Dean Henderson are in his plans to play at goal for the rest of the season.
Manchester United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that both David de Gea and Dean Henderson are in his first-team plans for the rest of the season. However, the Norweigan manager denied informing the media about the goalkeeping position up for stakes in the game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
I have the great option of two top goalkeepers,
said the United boss.
It’s a pleasure to have them around here. We hopefully have nine plus five games to go – we want to go all the way in the Europa League as well. I’m sure you’ll see both of them playing in goal for us.
David de Gea was on a one-month break and was with his wife for the birth of his first child allowing Dean Henderson to start six games in a row for the Reds.
What I can say is I’ve got great options playing the two of them. Top keepers but of course both of them want to play as much as possible. That’ll be decided on merit. We have to think who will give us a win on any given day.
Ever since Dean Henderson returned to Manchester United after a loan spell at Sheffield United, the debate around United’s No.1 has been rife.
De Gea has kept the goal for the majority part of the season and has a contract till 2023, which is a key point in a debate if de Gea is part of United’s long-term plans.
There are reports emerging from England that the United boss will take a decision for the sale of one of the two goalkeepers in the upcoming transfer window. Both the keepers are in fine form and can fetch the Old Trafford side some quick cash.
With the coronavirus hurting Europe’s top clubs financially, United are in a debt of more than 450 Million Pounds. Both United and Solskjaer have to take the goalkeeper decision by keeping in mind the worsening finances of Europe’s top clubs.
Henderson has several years in front of him and de Gea can still fetch a significant amount to the club.
The media also asked Solskjaer about a possible Erling Haaland move.
I’m focusing on the next two months. Whatever happens in the world of football, there are only so many places anyone can go to. I’ll just focus on the ones who are here. Even though I’ve worked with Erling, it’s not right for me to talk about him as a Manchester United manager to talk about him. I can talk about him as an ex-coach of his but he will make his own mind up.
Erling Haaland’s representatives earlier met FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF. The Norweigan has been linked to several top draw European clubs in the summer and Manchester United is one of them.
Manchester United will be without the presence of Anthony Martial who suffered a serious knee injury while playing for France in the recent international break.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood trained with the team on Friday and are expected to be in the reckoning to get back into the first eleven after weeks.
United are placed second in the Premier League standings with 57 points from 29 games. The Reds are 14 points behind city rivals Manchester City. Solskjaer’s men are also in contention for the Europa League as they face Granada in the quarter-final next week.
