The Magpies have entered the race to sign Chelsea’s Timo Werner, who reportedly isn’t part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the upcoming season.
As per renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Werner could leave the club before the end of the ongoing transfer window and is being pursued by Juventus. The expert claims that the 26-year-old was already discussed during negotiations for Matthijs de Ligt, who left the Bianconeri for Bayern Munich last week. The Blues also attempted to include the German in loan talks with RB Leipzig for Nordi Mukiele.
According to Sky Sports, Tuchel appears to be willing to let Werner go after his compatriot failed to live up to his 50 million euro price tag following the arrival from RB Leipzig back in 2020.
Newcastle have now entered the race as the 26-year-old’s future has become clearer, reports German daily BILD. Eddie Howe has been looking for a forward all summer and has yet to land any of his targets. If this interest becomes a reality, this would be a fantastic signing for the Magpies, who yet to sign a striker that would guarantee them 10-15 goals per season.
Werner can play not only as a striker but can also be used in a wide attacking role for the Magpies. At Leipzig, he was exceptional playing off of a striker, scoring 93 goals and assisting 40 more in 158 games.
The Germany international could be Howe’s fourth major signing this summer. Sven Botman and Nick Pope were signed for 37 and 11.5 million euros, respectively, while Matt Targett’s loan move was made permanent for 17.5 million.
Newcastle have been linked with several strikers, including Armando Broja of Chelsea, Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton, Benjamin Sesko of RB Salzburg, and Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad.
