Yuzvendra Chahal was back with ‘Chahal TV’ for the BCCI site and straightaway went after India’s match-winner from the second ODI against the West Indies on July 24: Axar Patel. Chahal indulged in a funny conversation with the teammate, who joined in with his sarcasm as well.
The clip was posted by the BCCI on their official Twitter handle, with Chahal seen telling Patel that the quality of his batting in Trinidad reminded the veteran wristspinner of his “younger days” when he used to smash the bowling in a similar fashion.
Patel said since he didn’t want Chahal to feel stressed over having to bat and spend his energy, he went about finishing off the game himself in Port of Spain.
“I have seldom seen innings of such quality. Your innings reminded me of my younger days,”
The comment brought a laugh on the face of Patel and debutant seamer Avesh Khan who was also present there.
Patel then joined in and said:
“See I was thinking if I got out early, Chahal bhai may have to come out and do it with the bat..so I felt I shouldn’t give Chahal bhai so much stress and finish the game myself.”
Earlier during their dialogue, Chahal told Patel he hadn’t felt this much pressure for his marriage as he did when the spin allrounder went about chasing the target against the West Indies with only lower-order players for company.
Walking into bat with India 205/5 in the 39th over, chasing a target of 312, the left-hander smashed an unbeaten 64 off 35 deliveries, featuring 3 fours and 5 sixes, to win the game for India with two balls left. It was Patel’s career-best ODI knock for India, one that he glittered with a six to close out the game in the final over.
The spinner had earlier delivered a restrictive spell of 1 for 40 off his 9 overs to make a difference in a high-scoring thriller. The win gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, which concludes on July 27.
