After opting out of the last edition of IPL for personal reasons, Suresh Raina has joined the Chennai Super Kings camp ahead of the 2021 season starting on April 9.
34-year old Suresh Raina had announced his retirement from International cricket on August 15, the same day as India’s former captain MS Dhoni did. He may have retired but the attachment with the Indian team is still intact, and he has followed the recent exploits of the Indian team.
Indian cricket team had a remarkable international season from the Australia tour to the recently concluded England series. In the span of four months, India won 5 out of six series across three formats, which included an incredible turnaround to beat Australia 2-1 in the Test series away from home and a 3-1 Test series victory over England at home. On both occasions, India fought back after losing the first match of the series.
Suresh Raina was impressed with the way Indian team came back after the humiliating 36 all out collapse in Adelaide against Australia and how they showed character. Raina, in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times talked about the role of the team management.
A lot of credit must go to the support staff. It shows how Vikram Rathour (batting coach) is training them. Ravi Shastri I know is a strong personality in the dressing room. I have played under him when he was coach. The team has changed character under him. They now have the confidence that they can win from any situation.
Raina said.
When asked about what changed for the Indian team that they have become such ‘mentality monsters’, Raina credited the team environment and the belief that they have to perform everywhere in the world.
Virat has been doing a brilliant job after MS moved away from captaincy. We have very good team to dominate world cricket for quite some time now.
Raina added.
