Sporting Club director talks up Cristiano’s return – The Sun

News in recent weeks has linked Cristiano Ronaldo with a Manchester United exit this summer. Rumours of a return to boyhood club Sporting have emerged, too, and were addressed by the club’s technical director Hugo Viana recently.

According to British tabloid The Sun, Sporting Club, the team the five-time Ballon d’Or winner started his professional career with, are confident of bringing him back in this transfer window following a disappointing campaign with United.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals for the Red Devils in 38 appearances across all competitions but the team still fell short of winning any piece of silverware on offer for yet another season. Per the report, Sporting believe they can offer the 37-year-old the chance of winning trophies back in his native Portugal and have already made him privy to their interest in his return.

However, despite the rumors circulating in the media, Sporting director Viana cooled the idea of Ronaldo returning just yet but refused to rule out the possibility of that happening in the future.

“I think not now – I don’t think it is possible, but you never know. He can decide where he goes, but you never know the future. I don’t want to talk about that, but he has another year on his contract so whatever he decides, let’s see.

“It is time for Man Utd to stabilize, to create a good spirit inside the club. I think it is not what’s happening now, but there is always time to rebuild. With Cristiano, of course, there is a player who scores 25 goals per season,”

he said in a recent interview.

Ronaldo has also been a topic of discussion between his agent Jorge Mendes and new Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly. As per The Athletic, the pair met in Portugal last week where they discussed the idea of the 37-year-old switching Manchester for London, but the report claims that United aren’t keen to entertain the possibility of him leaving this summer.
