According to reports, Chelsea were offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes reportedly speaking with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly last week. However, the Blues have decided against the idea of pursuing the 37-year-old.
The Portuguese is said to be considering leaving Manchester United in the summer after becoming dissatisfied with the lack of success on the field by the Red Devils and the lack of quality signings in the transfer market.
And as per The Athletic, the Blues held talks with Ronaldo’s agents on the player’s possibility of playing for Stamford Bridge after United failed to qualify for the Champions League for the upcoming season.
However, as per CaughtOffSide, the West London club at this stage are not interested in pursuing the opportunity to land the former Real Madrid man who the Blues believe is considerably very old as per the club’s requirements.
The Portuguese international has 12 months remaining in his two-year contract he penned with the Red Devils last summer, and it is believed that the Premier League giants have no intention to part ways with the star striker. The player was also recently linked with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, however, as per Sky Germany, Die Roten immediately turned down the offer to sign the Euro 2016 winner.
Ronaldo still supports the Red Devils and has no issues with new manager Erik ten Hag, who is hoping to strengthen his squad soon. United are still in talks with Barcelona about midfielders Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen, but no deals have been completed.
Cristiano is determined to play at the highest level and, according to The Athletic, wants United to match his ambition by spending money in the market.
The veteran may be concerned that Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham have been quick to back their bosses, while United has lagged behind.
“I know (Ten Hag) did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time and things need to change the way he wants.”
“I hope we have success. I wish him the best. We are happy and excited.”
“Let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies. I believe that Manchester (United) will be where they belong. Sometimes it takes time, but I still believe,”
Ronaldo said in his recent interview.
Ronaldo was United’s leading scorer last season, with 24 goals in all competitions, but he was unable to propel the club into the Champions League, finishing sixth.
