The pacer from England has undergone surgery to remove a fragment of glass from his finger and will stay in rehabilitation for 2 weeks. Jofra is expected to miss at-least the first 4 games in the upcoming IPL.
Among all the uncertainty around Jofra Archer’s availability, the RR fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the marquee pacer from England should miss only the first 4 games in IPL 2021. Jofra will return to India to play for Rajasthan after recovering from the injury.
In a report by ESPNcricinfo, Archer, who recently underwent a finger surgery in England will most probably feature for the Royals from the 5th game of their schedule.
The biggest cricketing league of the world will again be played behind closed doors due to the rising COVID cases. The 14th edition of the tournament will start on April 9 with the defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Virat’s Royal Challengers. Royals is slated to play their first match on April 12 in Mumbai against the Punjab Kings.
However, the RR management is awaiting confirmation from the ECB on the exact date of Jofra’s departure. Recently, the ECB stated that Archer had undergone successful surgery to remove a fragment of glass from the middle finger on his right hand and would now begin two weeks of rehabilitation.
They further stated that Jofra would be reviewed by a consultant before he is allowed to train again and more information would be uncovered about the effectiveness of the injection to an ongoing elbow problem.
In terms of his involvement in the IPL, the ECB said it is still pretty early to make a final call and a decision would be taken once Jofra returns to bowling.
Archer suffered a cut in his right hand finger while cleaning at his home in January before flying to India for their four-Test series. Archer returned to England from the India tour after the 5-match T20 series in March to get his injury troubles sorted.
On Tuesday, Ashley Giles, the ECB’s director of cricket revealed details of Archer’s finger injury on BBC’s Tuffers & Vaughan show.
He stated that
they’ve operated and I think they found a small fragment of glass still in attendance. It obviously healed but there was part of the fish tank still in his finger.
Archer’s absence would greatly impact Rajasthan’s chances, but his availability after the first 4 games would provide the necessary boost to the squad.
