Manchester United are planning to move for Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, reports The Athletic. The Austrian will likely replace Dean Henderson as David de Gea’s backup, with the Englishman on his way to join Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest.
The two clubs concluded an agreement on Thursday morning for the same, with Forest agreeing to pay Henderson’s full salary for the season. It remains undetermined whether either club was able to insert an option or an obligation to buy in the loan agreement. Regardless, Henderson will head out for the 2022/23 campaign after failing to wrestle the starting spot from de Gea across two years.
Henderson will replace Brice Samba in goal for Forest, who, earlier this summer, turned down a contract extension and is likely to leave the club despite helping them win promotion to the top flight after more than two decades of lower league limbo.
Meanwhile, in Henderson, Forest will get a Premier League proven custodian; the Englishman starred for Sheffield United during their first season back in the first division in 2019/20, before returning to Manchester United and signing a long-term contract.
United will move for Watford custodian Daniel Bachmann to replace the outgoing Henderson, reveals Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils want the Austrian to provide backup to de Gea, despite a disappointing season in the top flight with the Hornets, who suffered relegation. Watford, as per the report, will only consider selling the custodian permanently.
Bachmann joined the Hornets in 2017/18 from Stoke City after failing to make a single appearance for the Potters across two seasons. The Austrian would get his first start for the club in the 2019/20 season in the domestic cup but, following Watford’s relegation to the Championship, would feature regularly, swapping places throughout the season with veteran Ben Foster.
He would make 12 appearances in the Premier League in 2020/21 but would lose his spot to Foster following a change of manager towards the middle of the season.
