Former India opener Virender Sehwag mentioned how Bumrah is an ace up MI skipper Rohit Sharma’s sleeves, whom he can depend on for the toughest phases of an IPL encounter against all oppositions.
Bumrah has been playing for MI since his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) season back in 2013 and has only become a more rounded threat to the opposition with time and experience.
An excellent speedster capable of succeeding at different stages of an innings, Bumrah has taken 112 wickets from his 95 matches for MI at an average of 23.68 while conceding 7.35 runs per over.
In the ongoing IPL 2021, Bumrah has been in stellar form, recording three scalps from three outings and carrying a brilliant economy rate of just 5.66.
Bumrah has been an extremely crucial cog in MI’s wheels as the defending champions reside in the upper half of the points table with two wins from their three matches in IPL 2021 so far.
Virender Sehwag praises Jasprit Bumrah
“He (Bumrah) is Mumbai Indians’ ‘Brahmastra’; as long as they have the ‘Brahmastra’, they are ‘Ajay’ (unbeatable),”
Sehwag was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
So good is Bumrah that he almost makes it a 16-over game for the opposition batting units, forcing them to cut down risks against him and enhance his bowling partners’ chances of taking wickets at the other end. In MI’s 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday (April 17) in Chepauk as well, Bumrah went for just 14 runs off his 4 overs.
Having stressed on Bumrah’s quality, Sehwag added how the win over SRH only showed MI’s robustness as a team and why many feel they are the tournament favourites.
“This is why we say Mumbai Indians are the best team of this tournament; that is because they can defend low totals and also chase down high targets. In the bowling department, they have Boult, Bumrah, Rahul Chahar and all three did their job very efficiently,”
he concluded.
