Paul Pogba, who left Manchester United as a free agent for the second time in his career earlier this summer, has slammed the club’s approach at offering him a new contract. The Frenchman is set to join Juventus again in the coming days.
The Red Devils confirmed Pogba’s departure earlier in June. The midfielder left the club six years after signing for them from Juve, in a world-record transfer, for free. It marked the second time in the World Cup winner’s career that he cut ties with the Red Devils after a contractual stalemate.
In 2012, after seeing his pathway into the first team blocked under Sir Alex Ferguson, Pogba chose to run down his deal and sign for Juventus on a free transfer.
Featuring in his own documentary, the player claimed that United made a mistake in delaying an offer – and that he wants to prove them wrong.
“My thought process is to show Manchester (United) that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract. And to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract,”
the 29-year-old said during his new feature documentary on Amazon Prime.
Furthermore, the Frenchman slammed the offer the Red Devils did table in front of him. As per The Athletic, the club presented the midfielder with two proposals better than his current 290,000 pounds a week wage, but he played down the final offer as inadequate.
“How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen that.”
According to the Daily Mail, Pogba will join Juve – again – as a free agent in the coming weeks. He will pen down a four-year contract with the Bianconeri at the start of next month worth 8 million euros a year before bonuses.
Manchester City, too, were keen on adding the midfielder to their squad, but he chose to turn down their offer instead. He leaves United with 226 appearances and 39 goals under his belt in six seasons.
