Manchester United enquire about Inter Milan defensive pair Dumfries & Bastoni

The Red Devils expect a squad overhaul this summer under incoming manager Erik ten Hag. Recent reports suggest that the club are looking to strengthen right-back and centre-back positions, with Internazionale’s Denzel Dumfries and Alessandro Bastoni their targets.

Dissatisfied with their performances in the 2021/22 season, United are prepared to revise several areas of their squad to the liking of new manager ten Hag. According to Mirror, the Dutchman has identified compatriot Dumfries as a potential fix at right-back, a position that remains undetermined for Manchester United given Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s uncertain future at the club.

Inter are willing to sell the Netherlands international, albeit only at the right price, which, as per reports, is in the region of 26 million. While the player is keen to stay with the Nerazzurri, he won’t be opposed to moving to England to play under ten Hag.

The 26-year-old joined Inter before the start of the 2021/22 season in an 11 million pounds deal from PSV Eindhoven. He replaced Achraf Hakimi as the right wingback in the team, made 45 appearances across all competitions, and scored five goals.

As per Goal, United are also keen on Inter’s left-sided centre-back Bastoni. However, they face competition for the 23-year-old from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who, in Bastoni’s former coach Antonio Conte, may have a minor advantage over the Red Devils when it comes to prising the Italian international away from Milan.

Financial distress means Inter may have to sell some of their key assets this summer, Bastoni being one of them; the Nerazzurri have slapped a 50 million pounds price tag on the defender.

The Italian spent most of his youth career at Atalanta before joining Inter in 2017. The centre-back was promptly loaned back to his boyhood club for the 2017/18 season and joined Parma the season after to continue his development. In three seasons since he returned to Inter, Bastoni made just over a century of appearances and won the league title as a key member of Conte’s squad.
