Barcelona wingman Ousmanne Dembele is reportedly close to joining Paris Saint-Germain on a Bosman, with reports stating that his move to Paris is 95 per cent done.
According to reputed Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, Dembele has nearly completed his agreement with PSG, and Barca are now preparing for his exit as a free agent.
“Dembele is closer than ever to #PSG. Today the deal is 95% closed and there are people in #Barça who already know it,”
he tweeted.
Dembele’s contract with the Catalans expires at the end of June and it has been reported that there has been no development in negotiations between the club and the player. Hence, the LaLiga giants, who paid 140 million euros in the summer of 2017 for the player, could lose him for free.
The Frenchman, who almost left the club in January, stayed put at Camp Nou for the rest of the season and excelled under new boss Xavi Hernandez to end the season with 13 assists, more than anyone else, despite making only 21 appearances.
The injury-prone 25-year-old is reportedly a priority for PSG, who were after the French forward from the days when Kylian Mbappe’s future was uncertain. Although Mbappe has decided to stay at Parc des Princes, PSG’s interest has not ended as they want the player to replace outgoing Angel Di Maria, while also hope that should Neymar leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer, then the former Borussia Dortmund man could fill in the boots for the Brazilian.
If Dembele does move to PSG on a free transfer, it would be the second time in two years that the team from Paris will sign a player on a free transfer from Barcelona after having signed Lionel Messi last summer on a Bosman move in one of the most high-profile transfers.
Since his move from Dortmund in 2017, Dembele has made 150 appearances for Barca across all competitions and has scored 32 times for them. His most productive season was the 2018/19 season, when he played 42 matches, scoring 14 goals.
