Frenkie de Jong has addressed rumors linking him away from FC Barcelona and to Manchester United, claiming he prefers to stay with the former.
Details emerged recently about Barcelona’s need to sell players to ease the financial strain on the club, with the Dutchman considered one of its most sellable assets. To that end, United were linked with a move for the central midfielder, but, in a recent interview, he claims that he knows nothing about those rumours.
“Of course, I hear about the links to Manchester United. But the people in charge of the club didn’t tell me anything. So then I will assume that there is no agreement and that nothing is going on. So then I won’t worry about it too.
the 25-year-old told ADSportwereld.
The midfielder Barcelona from ACF Ajax for 86 million euros in the 2019 summer and is not yet looking forward to quitting the club.
In a separate interview, he claimed that the Blaugrana are his dream club, and he prefers to stay with them.
“I prefer to stay with Barcelona. Barcelona is just my dream club. Also from a young age. I just said it too. I’ve never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I’ve achieved so far,”
he told ESPN.
While the Red Devils’ search for a central midfielder may have hit a snag, talks are progressing to bring in a new central defender. Jurrien Timber of Ajax has been linked, and, if a report in 90MIN is to be believed, United have ramped up the talks to reunite him with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
The report claims the Dutch centre-back, who can also play as a right-back, is one of four players on top of ten Hag’s shopping list for this summer. De Jong, Timber, SL Benfica attacker Darwin Nunez, and Villarreal central defender Pau Torres are all considered priority targets ahead of a massive summer rebuild.
