Gujarat Titans have had players who stood up and played out of their skins in the IPL 2022, says former Australia international Brett Lee, who picks the table-toppers as the favourites to win the final against Rajasthan Royals on May 29.
Hardik Pandya’s men have been the most impressive team in the tournament in their debut season, topping the standings with 10 wins out of 14 games in the group stage. They then defeated RR in Qualifier 1 by seven wickets to go straight into the final.
What’s most impressive about the Titans is they have found different heroes stepping up at different times throughout the competition, making it a collective team effort to reach where they are. The fact that they Titans have had eight players winning the PoTM award at least once highlights the point clearly.

They are the only team to have three players scoring 400+ runs in the season, with Pandya, David Miller and Shubman Gill putting in their best work. On the bowling front, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Yash Dayal have been superb.
Lee said that finding hope in the form of different players in critical situations is what makes the Titans’ run very special. The 45-year-old believes this ability of the Titans to work as a collective unit gives them an edge in the final.
“First year in the competition, they’ve played out of their skins and have some wonderful players. But, rather than single out individual players, I like how they have played as a collective team. There have always been players who have stood up and performed very well for the Titans,”
he said.
The Titans will have massive support in the final, with the match being played at a packed Motera Stadium in their home state. About 1.25 lakh spectators are expected to witness the match.
