Fali Ramadani, Marcos Alonso’s representative, is reportedly in London this week to try and accelerate the progress of his client from Chelsea, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish defender is all set to head back to his homeland with Barcelona being the most likely destination. With just over 12 months left on the expiration of the contract, the Blues will seemingly want to sell the player for a small amount rather than lose him for free next summer.
The left-back has slotted himself well in place of regular Ben Chilwell after his injury this season, thus providing manager Thomas Tuchel with a dependable option in the position. Alonson was the only recognised left-back in the team at the time of Chilwell’s injury. He stepped up well when required and went on to bag five goals and six assists in 46 appearances across all competitions this season.
The 31-year-old has been loyal to Chelsea for several years, but his future plans and intentions have changed in recent months. The Spaniard wants to return to his country now. Hence, Barca are the most likely project that can get the signature of the defender.
And thus, his agent has reached London to speak with the club and try to speed up the transfer process so that the former ACF Fiorentina man can finalise his return to Spain as soon as possible. It is also being noted that the player might reject the Blues’ proposal of signing a contract extension for him to extend his stay in London.
It will be interesting that Barca will sign a former Real Madrid youth product who started his professional career with the Madrid’s Castilla side for two seasons whilst also playing for the first team once in the 2009-10 season before sealing a move to Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League in the 2010-11 season.
The player then switched to Serie A, appearing for Fiorentina in the 2013 season, where he remained for four seasons. During that tenure, he had also joined Sunderland on loan for six months in December 2013. And after a highly successful spell with the Italian side, the player then moved to his current club in August 2016 for a fee reported to be in the region of 24 million pounds.
He has had a highly successful career with the Premier League giants, where he has won one league title in the 2016/17 seasons, and one FA Cup title whilst also winning the Champions League and the Europa League once, respectively.
