Manish Pandey hasn’t been able to steer SRH home in two successive run chases and he has faced a lot of criticism from all corners. Ashish Nehra feels the Karnataka batsman has failed to adapt under pressure, and that’s where the newcomers like Hardik Pandya Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav have leapfrogged him in the Indian team.
Sunrisers Hyderabad haven’t had the best of the IPL 2021. The David Warner-led side have faltered in two consecutive run-chases, and they have failed to get the flourish at the end on sluggish tracks despite having set batsmen at the crease. Manish Pandey has been at the forefront of both these losses.
Despite being one of the top Indian players in the SRH ranks, Pandey has failed to deliver consistently. Pandey has played 30+ balls on 14 occasions since the start of 2018, and SRH have ended up losing 11 of those games. In the two games that SRH lost this season, Pandey has scores of 61 and 38. He took 44 and 39 balls for those two knocks, respectively.
While he remained unbeaten in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders and couldn’t get the boundaries frequently enough, Pandey slogged from across the line in the 17th over Shahbaz Ahmed against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The fact that the Karnataka batsman was dismissed off the very next ball that Jonny Bairstow was dismissed playing a similar shot was disappointing.
Thus, Pandey has been at the receiving end of criticism from all corners. Ashish Nehra minced no words in his chat with Cricbuzz stating that Pandey has failed to adapt in pressure situations, and that is one of the reasons for his failure to cement his place in the Indian side. The former pacer felt that the other players who made their debut after Pandey had leapfrogged him due to their ability to perform better under pressure.
“That’s why Manish Pandey failed to cement his place in the Indian team. You look when he made his debut, and then the likes of Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav came and went far ahead. Because these players are much better at adapting to the pressure and that’s why they leapfrogged Pandey,”
Nehra was said in Cricbuzz Live after SRH’s loss to RCB.
