Real Madrid are in pole position to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, reports 90MIN. That comes as a blow for Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Chelsea all of whom were linked with the French talent in recent weeks.

Reports suggest that the other interested parties have been informed of Tchouameni’s decision to join Los Blancos with terms agreed between the player’s representatives and the club.

The 22-year-old, who who made 95 appearances for the Monegasques since joining from Bordeaux in January 2020, will follow in the footsteps of compatriot Eduardo Camavinga, who left Rennes last summer for Real Madrid despite interest from Premier League.

However, as per Marca, a complication that could derail a potential transfer is Real’s reluctance to meet Monaco’s asking price for their star asset. As it stands, the Ligue 1 club has slapped an 80 million euros price tag on the central midfielder, which the Spanish champions deem excessive.

Negotiations are likely to follow, but neither the club nor the player is in any hurry to cut their ties this summer. Instead, when quizzed about his future as a Monaco player earlier in the season, Tchouameni claimed that he is yet to determine what to do next but that he could see himself continuing at the principality club.

“I have a contract until 2024, with an option until 2025. We will see what the future holds for me. Why not stay in the Champions League? Being eliminated by Shakhtar Donetsk in the preliminary round this season [is] stuck in my throat. Playing in the Champions League with Monaco is not something that would displease me,”

he was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

Tchouameni’s domestic form over the last two seasons has resulted in eight caps for the national team. The midfielder is a stalwart in Didier Deschamps’s squad and was called up to the Les Bleus camp for their Nations League matches against Denmark, Croatia, and Austria.
