Problems for the Delhi Capitals seem to be mounting every day. After captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the season due to a shoulder injury, their pacer Anrich Nortje tested positive for COVID-19. This has sent worrying signals to everyone involved in the 14th edition of the IPL.
The rules set up by BCCI says that a player or support staff member, who tests positive for COVID-19, must isolate in the designated area outside the bio-secure environment for a minimum of 10 days from the first day of symptoms or the date of collection of the sample which resulted in a positive RT-PCR report, whichever is earlier.
Nortje played the first two ODIs against the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side and then landed in India to take part in the 14th edition of the IPL.
After landing in Mumbai, Nortje was undergoing seven days of mandatory quarantine. Anrich, another South African pacer, Kagiso Rabada might also miss the game against Rajasthan Royals. Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ all-rounder Axar Patel also tested positive for Covid-19.
The new DC skipper Rishabh Pant has a huge challenge in front of him now as his team is losing players who played a pivotal role in guiding the side to the finals of the tournament last year.
However, even in the absence of several star players, Pant led DC to a victory over Chennai Super Kings in their first game with relative ease.
Capitals chased down a target of 188 as Prithvi Shaw, and Shikhar Dhawan set the stage on fire with their stunning opening partnership against CSK.
Delhi Capitals are all set to take on Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
