Reports are linking Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic with a move to Chelsea when his contract expires this summer. The versatile Croat has been a key member of Inter’s title-challenging squad, often playing as the left wingback in a 3-5-2 system.
According to reports in Italy, Chelsea are closing in on the free signing of Inter Milan stalwart Ivan Perisic. The Croatian winger has been with the Nerazzurri since 2015 but, with his contract expiring this summer, is the subject of transfer interest from several clubs. Although 33 years of age, the Split-born star has been a critical member of Inter’s title-winning and subsequently title-challenging squad, often playing as the left wingback in Antonio Conte and later Simone Inzaghi’s five/three-at-the-back systems.
Reports claim that Perisic has rejected Inter’s attempts at a 65,000 pounds-a-week two-year deal with the player and his representatives looking for an offer in the region of 100,000 per week and three years. The Croat has displayed his displeasure at the lack of movement in the contract negotiations publicly, slamming the Serie A giants for their approach towards his situation.
“I don’t know anything yet. With important players, you don’t wait to the last minute. You ought to know that too,”
he told the media recently.
The same report shares that Chelsea have agreed initial terms with Perisic regarding a move in the off-season. Further formalities remain, while the Croat would also be required to undergo a medical before the transfer is formalized. Contrarily, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that while the Blues are interested in signing Perisic, the player hasn’t yet reached an agreement with any club – including Inter. The Premier League side is waiting to enter into negotiations with their current situation rendering them unable to do so.
While he has been at Inter for the past seven years, Perisic has also played for Bayern Munich during that period – albeit temporarily and only for one season. The 33-year-old has also represented Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and VfL Wolfsburg previously in his career.
