Man City’ Sterling target for Arsenal, Leicester’s Tielemans also eyed

Arsenal are mulling over a move for Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling – as per the Telegraph. The 27-year-old could become a realistic target for the Gunners, provided they hold onto the final UEFA Champions League spot for the subsequent season, while the price they pay City will vary depending upon several factors – including a rapidly-expiring contract that runs out in 2023.

The England international signed for City in the summer of 2015 from rivals Liverpool for a staggering 63 million euros. In the seven years since his move, the England international has been capped 337 times by the Citizens, for whom he has scored 130 goals and won three league titles.

During his time at the Etihad, the player also trained under the current Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta, who, for a brief period, was an assistant manager under Pep Guardiola.

He becomes the second City player to be linked with Arsenal in recent weeks; the North Londoners are contemplating a move for striker Gabriel Jesus, too, whose current contract also runs out in 2023.

Arsenal are likely to reinforce multiple areas of their squad ahead of the following season, given that their return to European competition is confirmed. Midfield is one of those areas, and, as per The Athletic, the Gunners are targeting a summer move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian, who joined Leicester from AS Monaco in 2019, first on loan and later permanently, has refused to commit his long-term future to the club, meaning that he, too, is out of contract in 2023.

The Gunners have held talks with the player’s representatives, as per the report, and have received encouragement over the likelihood of a summer transfer. However, it remains to be seen whether Leicester will sanction a move for the key player.

Tielemans has made over 150 appearances for the Foxes over the last three-and-a-half years, managing a productive return of 24 goals from deep midfield.
