Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to resume his managerial career this summer despite rejecting several offers, including interest from a Premier League club.
As per Norwegian media outlet VG, the 49-year-old was approached by an unnamed top-flight English side following his Old Trafford exit in November 2021. The only Premier League clubs that have had a change in their backroom staff since his departure are Everton, Watford, Leeds United and most recently Burnley.
Watford are most certain to be relegated, while Leeds and Everton now have Jesse Marsch and Frank Lampard at their respective benches, leaving Burnley as the only remaining option. In fact, the Mike Jackson-led side are currently searching for a new permanent manager following the sacking of Sean Dyche.
The Norwegian was relieved from his responsibilities by the Old Trafford hierarchy last November following an embarrassing 4-1 defeat on the road at Watford, bringing an end to his rollercoaster reign after nearly three years at the helm.
The six-time Premier League champion has remained in Manchester since his sacking to support his 19-year-old daughter Karna Solskjaer, who plays for the club’s women’s side.
He has also made trips to watch former assistant Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich side play in League One with close friend Michael Carrick. The Englishman could yet again follow Solskjaer as an assistant to any new position he takes up, although the former Red Devils and Spurs midfielder is said to be enjoying his time away from the game.
During Solksjaer’s three year stint as manager at United, he led the team in 168 games, scalping 92 wins, 35 draws while also losing 41 matches.
He is the only head coach who has managed to secure United two top-four finishes in a row since the Sir Alex Ferguson era ended in 2013. And he narrowly missed out on a silverware last term after losing the 2020/21 Europa League final to Villarreal on penalties.
United, meanwhile, have failed to improve under Ralf Rangnick and currently sit sixth in the Premier League table with just two matches left to be played. From July 1, current AFC Ajax manager Erik ten Hag will replace the German.
