Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowling sensation Umran Malik has been bowling with rapid pace in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2022. The 22-year-old broke his own record twice against Delhi Capitals on May 5, eventually clocking 157 kmph.

Malik, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, has been the biggest story of the IPL 2022 so far. The speedster has made his mark with insane pace game in and game out. In the Thursday evening fixture against Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium, Umran recorded the fastest delivery of the season as he broke his own record twice in the same innings.

He bowled a 154.8 kmph delivery in the 12th over of the match against David Warner, bettering his previous record of 154 kmph. He had bowled 154 kmph twice in the previous game against Chennai Super Kings.

Bowling the 20th over of the innings, Malik proceeded to deliver a 157 kmph thunderbolt to Rovman Powell. This was the second-fastest delivery of all time in the league, just behind Shaun Tait’s 157.7 kmph.

Malik’s highlight of the season came against Gujarat Titans, where he bagged a five-wicket haul. Although Sunrisers ended up on a losing side, Malik bowled brilliantly to return with the figures of 5/25 in four overs and was adjusted as the player of the match.

Warner demolished his former franchise with an unbeaten 92 off 58 balls on Wednesday night. Powell also hammered 34-ball 67 not out to take the team total to 207/3.  Nicholas Pooran was the top scorer for the Sunrisers with 62 off 34, while Aiden Markram added 25-ball 42. But they fell short by 21 runs in the end.

This was the third consecutive loss for the orange army, and have now found themselves in a mid-table muddle with 10 points from 10 games. They are equal on points with Delhi, who have a better net run rate and Punjab Kings, who have lesser.
