Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is unlikely to play again this season, the Red Devils’ interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed during his recent pre-match press conference. Pogba’s contract at the club ends in June, meaning that, once again, he could leave for free.
According to Rangnick, it is unlikely that the Old Trafford faithful will see Paul Pogba playing again this season. The player was substituted after ten minutes during the Red Devils’ recent 4-0 defeat to Liverpool and is expected to the remainder of the season as a result.
“It is very unlikely that he will play until the end of the season again. The doctor told me that it will take four weeks minimum for him to recover and since last game is at end of May, I don’t think it’s very likely he will play again.”
Rangnick said during his pre-match press conference.
Should he not feature again this season, it is possible that United fans would have seen Pogba in their club’s jersey for the final time. While he joined the Red Devils for a then-world record fee in 2016, Pogba’s unresolved future – and an expiring contract – means he could leave Old Trafford for free for the second time in his playing career.
Previously, after spending his later formative years in the United academy, Pogba left to join Juventus on a free transfer when the club decided against offering him a contract in 2012.
Manchester United bought him back from Juventus in the summer of 2016 for a fee believed to be in the region of 110 million euros, breaking the previous record set by Gareth Bale’s transfer from Tottenham to Real Madrid. In the six years since then, the Frenchman made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils and scored 39 goals.
While Pogba, along with a few others, will be absent for United’s clash versus Arsenal this weekend, the squad will be boosted by the return of Raphael Varane, Scott McTominay, and Cristiano Ronaldo – confirmed Rangnick.
