KL Rahul has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2022 IPL season as he led tournament newcomers Lucknow Super Giants to four wins in seven games. The former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has expressed his thoughts on KL Rahul the captain.
The 30-year-old previously led the Punjab Kings side, where Jaffer was a part of the coaching staff. Jaffer said that during his stint with PBKS, Rahul has developed into a terrific player.
He believes that Rahul has also evolved as a captain with time.
“I had been involved with the Punjab team in the last two years, and think he’s a phenomenal player and has scored runs against all the teams. His captaincy is also getting better with time, which is great for the selectors and the Indian cricket fans as well,”
said Jaffer on a CricTracker show.
The batting order of LSG has been a topic of discussion, with a lot of messing around at No.3. They started with Manish Pandey at that position, later going with Krishnappa Gowtham and Jason Holder.
The Super Giants have returned to Pandey as their no. 3 in the last couple of games. Marcus Stoinis‘ batting position has also been highly discussed as he opens the innings for his BBL team and plays down the order in IPL. Jaffer feels that Stoinis should continue as a finisher if Pandey bats at three.
“If Manish is batting at number three, Stoinis should play the role of a finisher. Irrespective of the position, if five or six overs are left, Stoinis is an ideal man to do the job,”
Jaffer added.
LSG suffered an 18-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last fixture. They will next face Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 24.
