Coronavirus has entered the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble infecting multiple members of their contingent. Their physio Patrick Farhart was the first member to contract the virus. However, things turned worrisome on April 18 when the Rapid Antigen Test of Mitchell Marsh also returned a positive test.
Soon, the entire contingent of the franchise was directed to go into their rooms and quarantine themselves. All of them underwent a fresh round of RT-PCR tests, even as Marsh returned a negative result on the first occasion. However, the all-rounder was tested positive in the second round and was soon admitted to the hospital.
Amidst all the speculations throughout the day, the franchise released an official statement on Monday evening to confirm the development. The franchise also confirmed that there were a few more COVID positive cases inside their bio-bubble and all of them are being monitored. Meanwhile, the Australian has been hospitalised as well while the rest of the contingent will undergo regular testing now.
“The Delhi Capitals medical team is closely monitoring Marsh’s condition. A few more members from the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble, including support staff members, have returned positive tests as well.
Though they are all asymptomatic, their condition is being monitored closely by the franchise. All remaining members of the bubble are currently in isolation in their respective rooms, and will be tested regularly,”
an official statement from the franchise read.
Delhi Capitals are scheduled to take on Punjab Kings in their next game on April 20, and the Indian Premier League will take a call whether the Rishabh Pant-led side can travel to Pune for the game.
Marsh and the other members who have tested positive will be isolated and monitored for seven days according to the rules set by the tournament. They will have to return negative in two RT-PCR tests taken 24 hours apart. Moreover, for a match to go ahead in this situation, a franchise should have a minimum of 12 players available, including seven Indians.
If that is not the case, then the IPL will try to reschedule the said game, and if even that is not possible, then the final decision from the league will be binding for everyone.
