Delhi Capitals suffered their third defeat in five IPL 2022 games as they lost by 16 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium. One of the major talking points of the match was Mitchell Marsh’s innings. However, captain Rishabh Pant defended the Aussie all-rounder saying this was his first game in the tournament.
Chasing the target of 190, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got DC off to a flying start. The duo put on a 50-run partnership in just 4.4 overs. The Australian, in particular, batted like a dream in his knock of 66 off 38. He had put the team in a good position, with the scoreboard reading 94 in 11.3 overs when he was dismissed.
Marsh, on the other hand, struggled to time the ball throughout his innings. He ate up 24 deliveries and only managed 14 runs before he was run out at the non-striker’s end.
Pant, who himself hammered 34 off 17, said the middle order should have done better after the start Warner gave. Although he refused to criticise Marsh citing this was his first game of the season.
“Warner batted beautifully and gave us every chance to win this match. We could’ve batted better in the middle overs.
“Can’t blame Marsh also, since it is his first game. He looked rusty, but it’s part and parcel of the game,”
the skipper said after the match.
Earlier, Pant had dropped Dinesh Karthik when he was on five off 10. Karthik went on to decimate the DC bowling attack, scoring 66* off 34. The Delhi skipper added that they could have executed the plans better in the first innings.

“I think we could’ve bowled according to our plans but we were slightly under the pump from DK (Dinesh Karthik) in the latter half. I’ve said before too, we’ve got to learn from our mistakes,”
Pant added.
The Capitals occupy the eighth position on the points table and will face Punjab Kings in their next fixture at MCA Stadium in Pune on April 20.
