According to a report in The Athletic, midfielder Ruben Neves is preparing to depart the Premier League this summer. Barcelona are set to be among the list of clubs interested in the Portuguese.
Having spent almost five years in England at Molineux, the 25-year-old is set to take on a new challenge in his career and is looking for a new destination to head to. Neves is reportedly considering an exit from the club during the summer transfer window, and FC Barcelona and Manchester United are apparently interested in acquiring the services of the player.
In his five years with Wolves, Neves has appeared in over 200 games and has established himself as one of the premium holding midfielders in the Premier League.
This is not the first time that Manchester United are linked with a potential move for Neves. In fact, they’ve had him on his radar for a long time now.
With that being said, the United hierarchy are still unsure on who will be the coach next season, and that conflict in terms of managerial appointment has led to hesitation from their end. They are yet to reach out to representatives of the player for a possible transfer this summer.
Barcelona are also expected to be in contention for his signature. The Portuguese, like several national teammates, is represented by the Gestifute agency, which is run by Jorge Mendes.
The agent is expected to play a key role in Barcelona’s summer transfer window, and apparently, he wants to move his client Joao Felix to the Catalan giants if Atletico Madrid fail to secure Champions League spot. If that ends up happening, the midfielder could enter the operation.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana’s interest in Neves comes from the fact that Sergio Busquets is growing older and needs a replacement. Although the five-time Champions League winners are said to have completed Franck Kessie’s signing for free, he is not a direct replacement for Barcelona’s 33-year-old veteran.
