The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed the schedule for India’s tour of England later this year in July. The Men in Blue will get to play two warm-up matches ahead of the limited overs series against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. However, both these fixtures will clash with the rescheduled fifth Test match between India and England, which is set to be played at Edgbaston from July 1 to 5.
The first warm-up game will be played at Incora County Ground in Derby on July 1, while the second will be hosted by the County Ground in Northampton on July 3. Prior to this, India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28.
India’s fifth Test of the England tour last year was supposed to be hosted at Old Trafford, but it was postponed due to coronavirus fears. India led the series by 2-1 before the final Test was postponed.
The Test match is a part of the World Test Championship, in which India sit in third place with 77 points from 12 matches – a percentage of 58.33. The Indian team will be led by Rohit Sharma as opposed to Virat Kohli the last time they were in England.
The limited overs series comprises three T20Is and as many ODIs. The series will begin with the first T20 international in Southampton on July 7, followed by the next two at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge. The first One-Day international will take place at the Oval on July 12, before the caravan moves to the Lord’s for the second match. The tour will conclude with the third ODI at Old Trafford on July 17.
England have a packed schedule lined up as they host New Zealand for three Tests before the India series. After India departs, England will host South Africa for three T20Is, ODIs and Tests each. Their home season will also include the second edition of The Hundred.
