The prospect of signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe still looms large in the background despite the successful season Real Madrid are enjoying. Their star forward Karim Benzema believes that Los Blancos attacking line will be at least two times more productive with his compatriot leading the line.
Whether or not Real Madrid do complete the signing of Mbappe before the start of next season remains to be seen – accounts from different news outlets state completely different things as the transfer window edges closer – but Benzema believes that the side would benefit with his compatriot in attack.
“I like playing with him in the national team and I would like to play with him at club level,”
“I believe that we would score twice as many goals – or even three times the amount!”
he told L’Equipe
Benzema returned to the France national team just in time for the Euro 2020, and his relationship with Mbappe has been a key outlet for Les Bleus in attack since. He thinks the same, claiming that the two have established a great connection with each other and know which areas to attack and which to leave for the other one to exploit.
“We have a great connection in the national team because we each know what the other one will do. For example, we both like going to the left but we will never both be there at the same time,”
he said.
Had things turned out differently last summer, Real would be lining up for their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal rematch against Chelsea with both Benzema and Mbappe uprfont. However, Los Blancos’ attempts to take the youngster away from Paris were met with a roadblock.
Despite Mbappe being in his final contract year, his current club has refused to sell their talisman, even when Real Madrid offered to pay them close to 200 million euros in transfer fees.
