Khaleel Ahmed, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 5.25 Crore at the 2022 mega auction, believes Rishabh Pant will lead the side to their maiden trophy in Indian Premier League 2022.
The 2022 edition of the tournament has got off to a great start, and the fans are in for a non-stop two months of thrilling action. Delhi Capitals began their campaign with an inspiring victory over the five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
DC have been one of the top teams in recent years, reaching the final in 2020 and topping the league stage in 2021. But they lost in all-important clashes in both the seasons. The left-arm pacer Ahmed believes this could be the season their trophy drought ends, with an able leadership in Pant.
“I am confident Delhi Capitals will win their maiden title this time. Rishabh is a talented captain and has been doing really well for Delhi. I am sure Rishabh will lead Delhi to their maiden title win,”
Khaleel quoted as per the Times of India.
Ahmed, who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad for four seasons, was picked by the Capitals for a sum of INR 5.25 Crore. The left-armer was Rishabh Pant’s teammate in the 2016 U19 World Cup and shares a good camaraderie with the Delhi skipper.
“I know Rishabh personally. He is my age and we played cricket together and started our careers almost at the same time. When you know your captain, you can plan things better with him. He is a talented captain and player. I am really excited about the reunion with Pant,”
he added.
Khaleel started the season well, claiming two for 27 in the opening game against MI. Delhi won the game by four wickets, with Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel bailing them out from a critical situation.
The Capitals had only two overseas players available in the last game and will have three unavailable for the next few games as well. One thing for sure, Pant has his task cut out in the 2022 season.
