BVB target Chelsea, Man Utd outcasts as Adeyemi alternatives

Borussia Dortmund believe they can get a deal over the line to sign RB Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi for the following season. However, should they fail to do so, the German giants will turn their attention to a pair of Premier League outcasts.

However, should Borussia fail to bring 20-year-old in, they will turn their attention to a pair of Premier League outcasts – Timo Werner of Chelsea and Anthony Martial of Manchester United – as per 90min.

Formerly of RB Leipzig, Werner has been linked with a return to Bundesliga in some quarters after failing to settle into his stride in England. Despite finishing as Chelsea’s highest goal contributor for the season before, the forward was supplanted by Romelu Lukaku and later Kai Havertz for the current season.

As a result, Werner has seen game-time drastically cut short; he has made just 14 appearances in the league this season – most of which have been from the bench – and scored one goal. As per the report, Dortmund have asked Chelsea to be notified regarding the player’s situation as it evolves over the next few months.

Timo Werner leaving Chelsea will be one of the most non-toxic & amicable partings we’ve had for a guy that we paid decent money for yet didn’t meet expectations.

No drama. He’s been a top pro, helped us in some big moments but it’s clear this isn’t the best spot for him now.

Unlike Werner, who only arrived in England last summer, Manchester United’s Martial has been around for a while. The Frenchman signed for the Red Devils in a bumper deal in 2015; he scored 79 goals in 269 appearances. However, a sharp decline in form last season saw the Frenchman ousted from the starting eleven, and his position as a bench player was consolidated further this season by the arrival of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Frenchman joined Sevilla on loan in January 2022 in search of game time but his future remains unclear; Dortmund are reportedly one of the clubs keeping tabs on him for the seasons ahead.

The German giants are also keeping an eye on the situation surrounding Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus. Despite being a regular feature for Pep Guardiola’s side, the Brazilian is yet to commit his future to the club. As per the report, Dortmund could ask for Jesus in part-exchange for Erling Haaland.
