AS Roma are keen on signing Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot, says La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Portuguese was signed for the Red Devils by their former head coach Jose Mourinho, who, as it happens, is the current manager of Roma. However, the youngster soon lost his place in the squad to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, albeit he has been given a renewed lease of life under new manager Ralf Rangnick.
Dalot spent the season before on loan at AC Milan, for whom he gathered 33 appearances and two goals across all competitions. However, the Rossoneri decided against signing Dalot permanently, and he returned to be included in the United squad for the current season. To date, he has gathered 57 appearances for the club, 22 of which have occurred during this campaign.
However, in a blow to Mourinho and AS Roma, loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles is eyeing a return to England following the conclusion of his short loan spell, says the Mirror. The 24-year-old joined the Serie A side in January 2022 on a dry loan spell until the end of the season, joining countryman Tammy Abraham at the Stadio Olimpico.
Maitland-Niles was the subject of transfer interest from Everton last summer, but the Toffees had a 10 million pounds bid rejected by Arsenal. However, the Gunners would be willing to let their academy graduate finally leave during the upcoming transfer window for the right price, a year before his current contract expires.
With Arsenal since 2003, the Englishman came through the ranks before making his senior debut in 2014. The youngster was loaned out to Ipswich for the entirety of next season but returned to be a part of the Arsenal first-team squad under Arsene Wenger for the subsequent campaign.
Struggling to break into the starting eleven under Mikel Arteta in 2020, the player West Bromwich Albion for six months in January 2021. He returned, once again, to be integrated into the Gunners’ first-team squad but was again shipped out on loan, this time to Roma in 2022.
