The Red Devils are expected are close to renewing Bruno Fernandes’ contract for five further years, despite his contract not running out until 2025, reports The Athletic. The Portugal international has been one of his side’s best players since his move from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
As reported, the midfielder will double his wages to a whopping 240,000 pounds per week; however, he will remain a step behind some of the better earners in the squad, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho. Nevertheless, the bump helps Fernandes reach pay parity with several other key first-team members, including Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford.

One of their rarer transfer success stories in recent years, United wanted to reward Fernandes for a blistering start to his career in the Premier League just ten months after he made the move. The talks continued and were shelved for later following the turn of the year, but a breakthrough in negotiations recently pushed the two parties close to an agreement.
Manchester United completed a bumper, albeit delayed, deal for Fernandes in January 2020, despite courting him for much of the transfer window six months prior. However, it turned out to be money well spent for the Red Devils, as the Portugal international took the league by storm in his first few weeks in England – and has continued to prove himself to be one of his side’s key players ever since.
To date, Fernandes has made 117 appearances for the club and is a goal short of 50 in all competitions. The 27-year-old has been named Premier League’s Player of the Month four times in the same period and was the club’s Player of the Year for both the 2019/20 and the 2020/21 seasons.
