Virat Kohli made a heartening gesture following the completion of his 100th Test match in Mohali, giving away an Indian jersey to a specially-abled fan. The die-hard Indian team fan Dharmveer Pal, who has been given the status of the 12th man of the side, received the jersey from the great batter after the first Test was over.
Kohli made a point to make the occasion more memorable for Pal. The specially-abled Indian cricket supporter has been regularly present for Indian matches at home and sometimes even overseas. On March 6, as the Mohali Test came to conclusion, Kohli rewarded him for his show of love and support with his jersey following the 100th Test match.
The incident took place outside the PCA Stadium in Mohali where Kohli was due to enter the Indian team bus to go back to the team hotel, before he saw Pal and made his heartening gesture, one which the fan will never be able to forget.
Pal tweeted a video from the same over Twitter, which went viral and further reinforced how Kohli has always been very interactive and friendly with his fans.
Kohli was facilitated by the BCCI and the Indian team management on Day 1 of the Mohali Test, with head coach Rahul Dravid speaking on the behalf of the side and lauding the former skipper for his remarkable journey.
The batter, then, thanked Dravid, his entire team and the BCCI for their gesture and also expressed a sense of gratitude towards his family, including his wife Anushka Sharma who was standing alongside him.
“It is a special moment for me. My wife is here and so is my brother. Everyone is very proud. It is indeed a team game and it couldn’t have been possible without you. Thanks to the BCCI as well. In present day cricket, with the amount we play with three formats and an IPL, the one takeaway the next generation can take from me is that I played 100 games in the purest format,”
he said.
