Former Manchester City midfielder has lavished praise on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and even compared him to City’s wildly successful coach Pep Guardiola. Arsenal’s work when they lose the ball is quite similar to Manchester City and Toure believes that Arteta has learnt a lot from Pep.
Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world and Toure believes that Arteta is having a similar impact at Arsenal just over two years into his first permanent job.
‘If you see the action before the goals, that’s why you have to give credit to Arteta since he has arrived at Arsenal.
‘He has improved this team when they lose the ball. Five seconds and they get the ball back. That’s typical from Pep. When I was at Barcelona, they were doing similar. When they lost the ball, the guys who are in front, they stay.
The guys who are behind, they run behind you. Man City do that a lot. They are great at that.
Arteta had spent three years as Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City before deciding to take up the permanent job at Arsenal. He has gone through some rough moments, especially towards the beginning of his career as Arsenal coach but is starting to get more appreciation now as Arsenal continue to improve and find their footing.
The side from North London are currently fourth in the Premier League table and are a single point ahead of Manchester United in fifth despite having played three matches fewer. Despite that, Arteta has shut down talks of a top-four finish as the season is long and wants his players to focus on one match at a time.
‘I don’t like to look at the table a lot because we have games in hand, we’re going to play different fixtures. I know the objective and it’s only one, to try and improve tomorrow what we’ve done today and go into the next match and that’s it.
he signed off.
