The Red Devils are in the market for a new centerback. To that end, the club has been linked, in recent weeks, with Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji, Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, and Torino’s Gleison Bremer.
Harry Maguire’s continuous troubles, Raphael Varane’s unavailability, and Victor Lindelof’s unreliability could push Manchester United back into the market for yet another new centre-back. Reports have linked the Red Devils to standout performers across Europe; a Borussia Dortmund stalwart, a Serie A surprise emergence, and a versatile Marseille youth graduate.
Starting in Marseille, United are among a host of clubs interested in acquiring the services of versatile centre-back Boubacar Kamara, says the Northern Echo. The 22-year-old has been a regular starter for the French side under Jorge Sampaoli, as he was under his predecessor Andre Villas-Boas.
Not only a refined centre-half, but Kamara is also equally adept at playing in central midfield when required. As such, it is of no surprise that the youngster has attracted attention from clubs across Europe, especially with his contract running out at the end of the current season.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato reports that the Red Devils have also cast an eye over Torino’s Gleison Bremer, a standout breakthrough performer in Serie A this season, one who has already been linked with the top Italian clubs. United have been scouting Bremer regularly, says the report, and have joined Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race against the Serie A superclubs to sign him.
Finally, a report from BILD says Manchester United have submitted a 30 million euros bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji. Having rejected fresh contractual terms, Akanji is to leave Dortmund this summer and look for a transfer elsewhere; the German giants have wasted no time in replacing him, too, with Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule. The Red Devils are keen to add him to their ranks and have already approached him with a view towards the same. Their offer: a four-year contract with an annual wage of 15 million euros.
