Four of the five highest earners in the Premier League play for Manchester United, reports L’Equipe. According to the French publication , the Red Devils are paying four of the highest salaries in the league, including those of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
The report claims that, unsurprisingly, the Portugal international sealed his return to Manchester last summer on a monthly salary of 2.63 million euros, significantly higher than the next name on the list.
Whether Ronaldo’s return has had an impact in the way United would have desired – one his wages justify – remains open to interpretation, but, in terms of raw numbers, the five-time Ballon d’Or is on track for another productive season. Ronaldo is currently on 18 goals for the season across all competitions and is the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with 12.
Coming in behind Ronaldo, the only non- United player on the list, is Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian, as per reports, renegotiated a bumper new contract with his club by himself, without outside representation, bagging a stunning monthly wage of 2.06 million as a result.
In third is stalwart David de Gea, known to be among the top earners in the division for some time. The custodian has rediscovered his best form this season and was recognized for the same by the Premier League with the Player of the Month award for January.
The Spaniard, though, is not the last Red Devil on the list; summer signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane were also named as two of the highest earners in the league by L’Equipe in their report.
Earning a whopping 1.85 million euros per month, Sancho comes in at fourth following his mega-money move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. On the other hand, while former Real Madrid centre-back Varane signed for the club in a modest deal, the Frenchman is earning a massive 1.62 million euros per month, making him the fifth-highest earner in the top flight.
