Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has showered praise on his teammate and skipper Rohit Sharma. Dhawan mentioned that Rohit reads the game very well and is also a very helpful soul who is always approachable to anyone on the team.
Rohits life as the full-time captain of Team India across all formats has begun in wonderful fashion. The Men in Blue recorded consecutive series wins against New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka and the team are yet to lose a match under his leadership.
Sharma took over the leadership of T20Is when Virat Kohli announced his desire to step down just before the 2021 T20 World Cup. The Royal Challengers Bangalore men was then sacked as ODI captain and replaced with Rohit following which, he also decided to relinquish the Test captaincy leading to Rohit’s appointment in all three formats.
Dhawan has known and observed the Indian captain from extremely close quarters for a long time. The duo has enjoyed plenty of success for India in white-ball cricket and Dhawan has lavished praise on Rohit for his excellent cricketing brain as well as his affable personality.
“He is a gem of a person. He is chilled, relaxed, smart, and very approachable. That last bit (approachable) is his best quality. He reads the game very well. And he may be the captain now, but for those who know him, he’s the same Rohit,”
Dhawan told the Times of India.
Punjab Kings secured the services of Dhawan for a whopping INR 8.25 crore for IPL 2022. The southpaw has been extremely consistent with Delhi Capitals in the last few seasons of the IPL and is excited to be part of the new franchise given his Punjabi roots.
“Yes. I am happy to be part of Punjab Kings. I am a Punjabi boy, so of course, the connection is already strong. Like Delhi, Punjab is also home.
We have a balanced team. We are going to have a great season,”
said Dhawan on his new innings in the IPL.
