Out of form for Manchester United and now out of the England National Team squad, Marcus Rashford is enduring a torrid time. According to Manchester Evening News, Barcelona have offered the striker an end to his woes and a chance to start fresh elsewhere.
The 24-year-old has endured a tough season, seeing more of the bench recently than the pitch. His sharp loss of form has also not gone unnoticed in the England camp, with head coach Gareth Southgate choosing to omit him for the upcoming friendly games. Reports recently claimed that the player himself is looking for a change, and the Blaugrana are willing to offer him the same.
The Catalans are set to dip into the market next summer to replace Ousmane Dembele; the Frenchman is out of contract this summer, and talks, so far, over an extension have hit a stumbling block. Pacey, and a good finisher, Rashford could take Dembele’s place in the Barca squad for next season if the club decides to pursue the deal any further.
Reports emerged recently that Rashford would be open to an exit this summer should his game time not improve. The Englishman found himself relegated to the bench following the turn of the year, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick preferring to start Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga as his two wide attackers. However, speaking to the media recently, Rangnick downplayed reports of Rashford being unhappy but claimed that the player would be free to exit the club in the summer if he so desires.
“I don’t think this is an issue and he never said anything about that since we spoke yesterday. But the window is closed now. Even suppose he and his agents or his family at one stage of the summer think about maybe going to another club, well then he can do that but in the summer. Now the window is closed,”
the German said.
Rashford’s contribution is significantly down this season; having played 26 times so far, he has scored just five goals, compared to the 21 he scored in 57 games the season before.
