Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has sent the rumour mill rumbling by claiming that his agent would be open to a return to Italy after three years at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea star Jorginho would be open to a return to Italy, his agent Joao Santos has claimed. The 29-year-old midfielder has recently been linked with a move back to Napoli, who initially transferred him to the Blues for a huge fee.
Santos claims that while Jorginho will be presented a contract extension by Chelsea, he still can go back to Napoli.
“He wants to return to Italy: if Napoli will have the will to bring him back to the squad, we will be well disposed.
“He costs 50 million euros and still has a two-year contract. I think [Roman] Abramovich will propose a renewal shortly anyway.
“Juve? [Fabio] Paratici knows football. He is not interested only in the Bianconeri, but also in Inter and Milan.”
Santos told Radio Kiss Kiss.
Meanwhile, Jorginho himself addressed the rumours recently and claimed that the city and its fans hold a special place in his heart. While he did say that he would like to return to Naples one day, he acknowledged his existing contract at Stamford Bridge.
“I had a wonderful experience and I’m very fond of the city and the fans.
“Now, honestly, I’m not thinking about it because my concentration is all on Chelsea, but if there’s the possibility, one day, you don’t know when, to return, of course, I would like to.”
Jorginho said.
Jorginho is currently Chelsea’s vice-captain and often stands in for Cesar Azpilicueta. The midfielder was key in the Blues’ recent win over Porto in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final and was named the ‘Man of the Match’ for the same.
Chelsea’s summer transfer plans could hinge on player departures. The Blues are expected to spend big again this summer, despite spending a small fortune in the transfer window of 2020.
However, several players – including Jorginho – have been linked with moves away from the club as well.
Chelsea are likely to oversee an upheaval in the attacking department yet again this summer. Tammy Abraham, who has seen very little game time in recent months, is being linked with a move away from the club. Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, is yet to sign a contract extension that could keep him at Stamford Bridge beyond June 2021. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech – both summer signings in 2020 – have also been linked with transfers elsewhere.
Meanwhile, one player which Chelsea have a concrete interest in is Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund dynamo is on the radar of several top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. The Norwegian attacker supposedly has a release clause in his contract, which will come into play in 2022. However, clubs are prepared to pay extra to secure his services in the upcoming transfer window.
Should the Blues fail to sign Haaland, they could turn to Torino striker Andrea Belotti. The prolific Italian forward has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge recently, after enjoying yet another solid campaign with Torino. Despite his performances, Torino are faced with the prospect of relegation. Should they fall into the second division, the 27-year-old could move away to find better opportunities.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni. The youngster is currently plying his trade in France with Monaco and has put in several impressive displays this season. Tchouameni has made 29 appearances so far this season and has scored two league goals.
