Could we be seeing an incredible Argentine collaboration at Elland Road next season? There is certainly a possibility! According to a report by 90min, Leeds United have now entered the race to sign Sergio Aguero on a free transfer this summer. The forward will leave Manchester City on contract expiry in June 2021, after a decade at the club. As such, teams have started lining up to secure his services on the cheap.
The report claims that Leeds’ record summer signing, Rodrigo, could be on his way out of the club. The Spaniard signed for Marcelo Bielsa’s side ahead of their return to the Premier League but has failed to hit the heights expected of him. As such, the club is keen to cash in on the striker during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Rodrigo’s departure will leave a hole in the Leeds’ squad, which they are hoping to fill with Aguero. The Argentine striker recently confirmed his departure from Manchester City after a decade at the club and will be a free agent this summer.
Previous reports have pointed towards Aguero’s desire to stay in the Premier League. Chelsea have been linked with a move to him constantly since the knowledge of his City exit was made public. Leeds, however, have seemed to enter the fray now, with their legendary manager a fan of the player.
The report also suggests that Aguero will not have to relocate could play in Leeds’ favour. Furthermore, the club is also hoping to use its development plans, along with a passionate fanbase, as key factors to lure Aguero to Elland Road. However, should the 32-year-old join Bielsa’s side, he won’t be displacing Patrick Bamford. The English striker has been the team’s main goal-scorer and has scored 14 times in the league this season. The club is in talks to renew his contract.
