On Sunday, Gujarat Giants beat UP Yoddha by 38-31 and advanced their chances to ensure a playoff berth.
The race for the playoffs is heating up as apart from the Patna Pirates, who have already qualified for the playoffs, six other teams are still in contention for a playoff spot. Each match is a must-win game for each team if they have to qualify for the playoffs directly.
Gujarat Giants, therefore, gave themselves a good chance by winning their clash against UP Yoddhas’. Their win was led by their defence, where the pair of Parvesh and Girish scored a total of 10 tackle points.
“The league is in it’s fag end, and therefore it’s important to win every game, if we lose even one game, we would be out of the league, we need to win our remaining games to qualify for the playoffs.
It was important for us to win this game as there is not much difference between teams on the points table, if we would have lost this game, we would have been under more pressure going forward.”
GG coach Manpreet Singh said in a post-match interview, as per Sportskeeda.
Parvesh revealed to the media that his defenders are playing an aggressive game now, stating that earlier the Giants defence used to avoid the raiders, but now they have decided to go for the tackles if they feel like there is a possibility of stopping the raiders. That change in strategy was beneficial.
On being asked what positives his team has taken from the game, Manpreet Singh said:
Tthe team played with a lot of maturity, they played like champions, the players showed faith on each other, they played according to the plan, so these are the positive things and in the upcoming matches we hope to continue the same way.”
He further added that in the whole season, despite losing some games and struggling with injuries, this team is unstoppable. He also used the famous dialogue from Pushpa movie to sum up his team’s performance, “We are fire, not flower“.
